Apple on Monday pulled back the curtain on the newest addition to its affordable iPhone lineup. Priced at $599, the iPhone 17e hits shelves on March 11. Under the hood, the device packs the same A19 chip as the standard iPhone 17, complete with Apple Intelligence support. Storage starts at 256GB double what the previous generation offered out of the box.
Perhaps the biggest leap from its budget predecessor is the long-awaited arrival of MagSafe and Qi2, bringing wireless charging speeds of up to 15W to the lineup for the first time. The iPhone 17e comes in three finishes: black, white, and a new soft pink.
On the connectivity front, Apple has equipped the phone with its next-gen C1X cellular modem up to twice as fast as the C1 found in the iPhone 16e, while consuming 30% less power. The camera setup carries over the 48-megapixel Fusion camera from the iPhone 16e, but Apple makes the most of it. The lens delivers an optical-quality 2x Telephoto, effectively giving users two cameras in one for tighter, better-framed shots.
Video capabilities are equally solid. the iPhone 17e shoots 4K Dolby Vision footage at up to 60fps and captures Spatial Audio, making playback through AirPods or Apple Vision Pro a genuinely immersive experience.
The iPhone 17e carries an IP68 rating, meaning it can handle both dust and water with ease. Its 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display is shielded by the latest Ceramic Shield 2 which Apple claims is three times more scratch-resistant than what came before.
Safety features are also well covered. The iPhone 17e supports Emergency SOS via satellite, Roadside Assistance, and Find My, keeping users connected and protected even in the most remote situations.
Sustainability gets a meaningful nod too. The device is built with 30% recycled materials overall, with the enclosure crafted from 85% recycled aluminum and the battery making use of 100% recycled cobalt.
